Fractures of the incisive bone and the rostral man-dible are common fractures of the horse’s head. These are frequently repaired with orthopedic wires placed as tension bands near the gingival margin. Other methods such as lag-screw fixation, intramed-ullary pinning, and intraoral splints are rarely necessary. Mandibular fractures of the interdental space are, however, surgically more demanding because they are often bilateral, unstable, and heavily contami-nated (Fig. 1).
