摘要

17,000 brain tumors are diagnosed each year in the US. They represent the most common solid pediatric tumors and are second among all childhood cancers. Brain tumors have unique features among neoplasms that pose significant challenges in diagnosis, pathological classification, and therapy. They encompass a wide range of biological activities and morphologies. The CMS is immunologically "protected," and early stages are very difficult to detect. Primary brain tumors are graded rather than staged because of their natural tendency to invade and not metastasize. All of these attributes pose unique and significant challenges to the investigator hoping to model primary brain tumors in mice.
