Sensitivity of Wildhaber-Novikov gears to center distance variations

In this paper, the sensitivity of the pressure angle to the variation of the center distance is determined analytically for a whole class of helical gears. The results are then applied to the case of Wildhaber-Novikov gears, showing that these gears are highly sensitive to center distance changes, which easily cause edge contact to occur between the teeth.
