The local injection of pulverized synthetic Titaniumdioxide materials (RUTILIT) at tuyere-level is a suitablemeasure to build high smelting, protective TiCN layersat worn areas in the BF hearth. Wear protection bylocal synthetic Titanium dioxide materials injection atvarious blast furnaces has been investigated intenselywith very successful results in the past years. AtROGESA (Dillinger, Germany) blast furnaces No. 4and No. 5 a mixture of pulverized coal and syntheticTitanium dioxide (RUTILIT NF) has been injected simultaneouslyin order to protect the hearth from prematureerosion. This new technology has taken placesince May 2008 by using the grinding and injectionequipment for pulverized coal and Titanium dioxideproduct. This achieves a quick and cost-effective repairof the damage of the hearth refractory, and thus a reductionof temperature in the hearth area.This paper is a common report from AG der DillingerHuettenwerke (ROGESA, Dillingen, Germany) andSACHTLEBEN Chemie GmbH (Duisburg, Germany). Itexamines the benefits of a long term coinjection ofpulverized coal and synthetic Titanium dioxide(RUTILIT NF) at blast furnace No. 4 and No. 5 and theinspection of the hearth of the blast furnace No. 5 afterstop for relining
