This paper presents leachate drainage solutions on two old large sanitary landfills found nearby Warsaw, i.e. Radiowo and Lubna. On these landfills, basic remediation problems were connected with protection agaisnt leachate migration and groundwater pollution as well as wste body formation. The protection of groundwater agaisnt leachate of old landfills can be realised by the cut-off wall and peripheral drainage (pipe drains or drainage trench). The paper also presents characteristics of sanitary landfill leachate in comparison to sanitary wewage. Filter criteria (for mineral ant geotexitle filters) for leachate drainage systems design of landfills as well as durability observaitons in practice are described.
