Hygienic Aspect of Dustiness on Polish Private Farms

Studies of health risk due to dust on Polish private farms were conducted in the aspect of a farmer's workplace as a whole - not merely selected occupations, and covered 30 self-employed farmers. The results of the studies 1. confirmed the risk created by dusty working conditions; 2. revealed a complex character of factors determining the level of exposure to dust -size of a farm, type and size of production, technologies applied in individual occupations, distribution of occupations among family members, and services provided by neighbours; 3. confirmed a changeable character of exposure; 4. indicated the necessity to apply the strategy for measurement and evaluation of the level of exposure, which would be adjusted to the type of exposure and specific features of the farming environment; 5. showed the necessity to provide education in the field of occupational hygiene and ergonomics, as well as prophylactic actions.
