Detective mike robe's fantastic journey: food safety education programs for school-aged children

A 1998 USDA/FDA funded study concluded food safety education programs could be most effective if incorporated into existing curriculums. The University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension Food Safety Education Program has successfully achieved this goal through development and implementation of two curriculums, electronic game boards and an upcoming interactive CD ROM. These two food safety education programs targeting school age children appear to have positive impacts on food safety knowledge and awareness. One of the key to success of this program is the involvement of educators in the development and implementation process.
