Clubroot diseases of brassica crops caused by Plasmodiophora brassiae are one of the serious soil-born diseases in the world. Several strategies have been developed to control this disease including biocontrol by introducing antagonistic bacteria. In our previous study, 100 strains of fluorescent pseudomonads were isolated from rhizosphere of brassica crops and tested for activity of biological control of clubroot diseases. As a result, we could isolate several fluorescent pseudomonads including Pseudomonas sp. HA100377 that is a very effective biocontrol agent of clubroot diseases. In this report, we describe briefly about the biological characteristics of these antagonistic bacteria and some practicable methods for utilization of these bacteria as biocontrol agents in fields of Chinese cabbage.
