Pulmotil~R has proven to be an effective prevention and treatment for Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, however performance improvements in the absence of APP have not been documented. This field trial was designed to answer that question, using a "gold standard" Pulmotil~R treatment (ignoring cost). The trial was conducted in a "typical" 600 sow farrow to finish herd. The herd utilizes AI/AO pig flow by room in 4 Nursery/Finisher barns that are isolated from the sow site by 1000 ft. Coughing and reduced gain occurs in nearly every group at approximately 14 to 18 weeks of age. Pulmotil~R was intended to reduce the respiratory pathogen load at this time and help to improve performance parameters. Pulmotil was administered in the early nursery phase to reduce colonization with Mhp and Pm. Early finisher treatment was intended to reduce pathogen load after stress of movement to finisher.
