Addition reaction of mesomorphic malonates 3b and 4 to C_(60)led to fullerene derivatives 1 and 2, respectively, whcih showed essential properties for the elaboration of new optical and electronic molecular devices, ie., liquid-crystalline properties (smectic A phases) and good thermal stability.
