It is common that students in all areas must cover some subjects in Information Technology. In addition to computer literacy courses. Students must be able to acquire various computing skills to cope with recent developments. It is also impossible to cover such kinds of materials in a single subject. To address this issue, computer -based learning packages is an effective means of providing self-paced, self-learning environment to supplement lectures. Using conventional methods, it is difficult to acquire or develop computer-based packages to provide up-to-date materials to meet different teaching requirements. We propose a IT proficiency courseware based on a dynamic reusable components architecture. The system is based on a single content base consisting of re-usable components. Course-course template, teaching-style templates and strategy templates are used to accommodate different teaching requirements. The various components of the distributed learning systems are linked together using the Common Object Request Broker Architecture. The main advantage is that it provides portability and interoperability. The proposed architecture provides more flexibility in producing/managing course materials, especially when the university is moving towards a credit-based system.
