Soluble type polishing fluids have been developed for titanium materials (pure titanium, Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V, Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn), which can be machined only with extreme difficulty, using lapping tape coated with SiC abrasive grain on the backing of tetoron taffeta. All polishing fluids more greatly improved the polishing characteristics of titanium materials than tap water only. In particular, the introduction of fatty acid into the polishing fluids was better in the cases of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn. But difference between polishing fluids with fatty acid and without one was smaller effects in the cases of pure titanium and Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V.
