This paper presents an experimental study of the influences of the type of diamond used during the test (mono-crystalline and polycrystalline) upon the material removal rate and surface roughness. Four grit sizes of each type of diamond were tested and the lapping time was varied. Finally, an optimization of the lapping process for the alumina ceramic is proposed. The research presented in this paper uses this process as a platform to study the micor machining of 99.9
