Advanced measurement and flatness control for hot strip mills

The BFI, together with Thyssen Krupp Stahl, is developing a new flatness control system including topometric flatness measurement device (called TopPlan) and advanced (model predictive) flatness control strategies to fulfil the increased quality demands of rolled products, especially in hot rolling mills. Some features and preliminary results have been presented in this paper. It is planned to test the control concept on mill, next year.
