The use of coal ash in wasteland developmentfor agriculture open an avenue for its bulk utilisation andsimultaneously fulfilling the lacunae of the soils in terms ofprimary, secondary and micro nutrients. The chemicalcomposition of coal ash varies with the coal used anddepending upon the property of soil, coal ash is being added.Due to the lack of humus layer in coal ash, the possibility ofthe accumulation of the heavy metals (non essential) mayresults in deleterious effects.In the present studies an attempt has been made to modify thecoal ash biologically by practicing vermitechnology using nonecofriendly organic waste -Sisal green pulp. The compostformed from Sisal (Agave sisalana) have been analysed by IRspectrophotometer The treated compost (with earthworm)showed a change in the infrared spectrum on comparison tothat of control compost (without earthworm). The biochemicalanalysis of the treated and untreated compost also revealed theefficacy of the coal ash along with earthworm in termsmicrobial respiration and microbial number Increaseconcentration of coal ash shows the declination in the activitybut the difference is not more than 8-10 percent in 0-30percentconcentration of coal ash in the treated compost. whereas, theuntreated compost shows a sharp declination from 0-30 percentcoal ash concentration due to the lack of the organic acids andmucus supplied by the earthworm.
