Lamp fillings containing CsX-DyX_3, mixtures proved to be superior to NaX-DyX_3 (X = Br, I) systems with respect to Dy enhancement and lowering of the DyX_3 activity. Nal should, therefore, be replaced by CsI, if the presence of Na is not required to decrease the colour temperature of the light emitted. A further advantage incidental to the application of Cs is that it does not penetrate the quartz glass of the discharge vessel unlike Na.
