Measurements of the size distributions of short-lived radon progeny and the radon equilibrium factor F were carried out in the living room of a dwelling, under different aerosol conditions. With the PC-program RADEP of A. Birchall, the dose conversion coefficient DCC_(RADEP) (effective dose per unit exposure to the equilibrium equivalent radon concentration C_(eq)) was calculated. F and DCC_(RADEP) showed great variations, but they were inversely correlated (correlation coefficient: -0.83). Therefore the effective dose per unit of ~(222)Rn-concentration varied only within a factor of two. This result supports radiation protection measures which are based on long-term measurements of ~(222)Rn-concentrations with passive detectors.
