Numerical simulation and experimental analysis of the wall ironing process have been performed for polymer pre-coated sheet metal. A finite element model is presented, which is based on Operator Splitted Arbitrary Lagrange Euler (OS-ALE) procedure. An advanced constitutive equation is used to describe elasto-viscoplastic material behaviour. Experimental verification is performed with a plane strain strip ironing device, in which global process forces are measured and the deformation of both materials is visualised using a digital image correlation technique. Good agreement between numerical and experimental results have been obtained for two die angles.
