. Central serous chorioretinopathy: an endocrinescreening

Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is a serous detachment of the retinal neuroepithelium, whose aetiopathogenesis has not yet been completely clarified. In an attempt to identify possible causal factors, we carried out an endocrine screening in 16 patients with clinically and fluoroangiographically demonstrated CSC. The aim of the research was to evaluate links between laboratory parameters of and two peculiar aspects of CSC, widely confirmed in literature: the prevalence in male subjects and the role played by 'stress'. We measured blood concentrations of reproductive hormones and the ACTH-cortisol axis, and plasma and urinary concentrations of catecholamines.
