. Microaneurysms secondary to branchretinal vein occlusion

Common consequences of branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) include microaneurysms, telangiectatic and non-perfused capillaries, collateral vessels and macroaneurysms. Only few reports had described the development of macroaneurysms following retinal vein occlusions1"4, until 1990, when Cousins and co-workers emphasized the occurrence, and the clinical and angiographic features of macroaneurysms secondary to BRVO5. The authors, reviewing the clinical and angiographic records of 147 patients enrolled in the Branch Vein Occlusion Study, distinguished four types of lesions: arterial, venous, capillary and collateral, pointing out the association with capillary non-perfusion.Our research describes the clinical and angiographic aspects of 22 cases of BRVO, in which retinal macroaneurysms developed, in an attempt to analyse the pathogenetical features.
