Singapore has a proud record as the first country in the world to operate a driverless heavy steel wheel to steel rail metro system when it opened the North East Line (NEL) back in June 2003. Drawing on the experiences of NEL and Circle Line (CCL), the assignment of Safety Integrity requirements and specifications could be further refined. Therefore, in the derivation of Safety Integrity requirements for future metro lines, LTA has conducted extensive review on the guidelines and recommendations from the latest CENELEC Technical Report EN50126-2:2007 and studied the requirements of other metro lines worldwide. This paper aims to share our experience on how the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) requirements for new projects have been developed and the challenges encountered in customising the CENELEC Technical Report EN50126-2:2007 to the Singapore of environment.
