The segregation process involves a series ofcomplex reactions in which a volatile halide of metal is formedwhere the halide is further reduced on the surface of a reducingagent The recovery of metal using this method depends on thevarious parameters governing this process. The possibility ofapplication of this process in recovery of nickel from nickel-oxide ores has been the subject of several studies. However, fewstudies have been reported in the literature concerning theapplication of this process in recycling of nickel from the nickel-bearing wastes. The objective of the present study is to recyclethe nickel from waste nickel catalysts using the segregationprocess. The effect of various parameters such as time,temperature, the characteristics of the reducing and chloridizingagents, etc. have been investigated. On the basis of theexperimental results, the optimum conditions are identified.
