Production of Cerium Stabilized TetragonalZirconia Polycrystals (Ce-TZP) powders at low temperature bya chemical route has been investigated. Ce-TZP compositionshave been prepared by adding cerium ~III nitrate to ahydrothermally synthesized monoclinic zirconia sol. Thesettling behaviour of the sol-salt suspension has been studied atdifferent molar ratios by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy andSedimentometry. The settling rate and the size of theagglomerates increase with the cerium concentration but nosegregation of cerium can be observed after drying thesuspension. Nanosized-grain Ce-TZP is obtained by heattreating the dried powders between 450degC and 750degC. Fora 12% Ce molar ratio only pure tetragonal solid solution isyielded, whereas some Ce_0.5Zr_0.5O_2 appears at a 18% ratio.
