The continental crust of China lies at the southwestern tip of Eurasia, which adjoins the Pacific Plate in the east and the Indian Plate in the south-west. The continent crust of China can be divided into the east and west parts by a line from the Helan Mountains through the Longmen Mountains to the Daxue Mountains which is nearly in the N-S direction. The North China (Huabei) area lies in the east part with an area of one million square kilometers, which borders on the Kangbao-Chifeng fracture on the north, Baoji-Xinyang fracture on the south, Yinchuan-Guyuan fracture on the west, and Tanlu fracture on the east. Oil and gas in the Cenozoic in China is mainly produced in the area. This paper, however, discusses the prospects of primary oil and gas in the Paleozoic and Middle-Upper Proterozoic.
