VOLUME REDUCTION/PELLET HANDLING PRESS-SYSTEMS FOR SUPERCOMPACTION OF DRY SOLID LOW- AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL RADWASTE

New and exclusive equipment and processes are constantly being added to Fontijne Holland's manufacturing program of High Force Compaction Installations for the Nuclear Industry. Fontijne Holland BV offers for more than 15 years design expertise and supplies complete compaction systems to suit specific requirements. There are presently between 25 and 30 compaction systems in operation throughout the world for processing Low Level Dry Active Waste of which a significant number have been supplied by Fontijne Holland B.V. For processing Intermediate Level Waste the need for a High Force Compaction Installation became apparent which ultimately led to a contract for the design, manufacture and supply of a supercompactor to reduce the volume of Plutonium Contaminated Waste Material. The paper describes the technical aspects of the installations supplied sofar for processing Low Level Radwaste and installations to reduce the volume of ILW or PCM, with their particular design requirements.
