USING METADATA TO DELIVER RELEVANT AND VALUABLE CONTENT

Video content providers, from traditional broadcasters to Internet streaming platforms, face expanding consumption models and the challenge of responding to direct and immediate feedback from viewers. This evolution makes it necessary for content providers to deliver enriched, relevant and valuable content to the individuals consuming it. Metadata is the key to enabling this consumer-driven evolution and is used to enhance the viewing experience by providing support for such features as multiple languages and on screen graphics. As metadata advances, it enables content providers additional revenue opportunities through defined splice points signalling when local or targeted advertising may be inserted. It also provides video segment identifiers to block the distribution of content across unauthorized distribution channels and during blackout periods. This paper presents cutting edge technology that helps content provides insert and validate metadata whilst ensuring adherence to the standards. It discusses how content providers can best make the most of metadata to deliver relevant and enriched content to its consumers. It will describe available technology.
