Computer-aided instruction (CAI) software that effectively supports fundamental exercises in circuit analysis and laboratory experiments is described. The CAI software improves the teaching of circuit analysis through simulations of electronic circuit experiments. Electronic measuring instruments are displayed on the computer screen and students 'operate' these measuring instruments to measure voltages and waveforms for electronic circuits which are also displayed on the screen. Operation of these instruments is monitored by the computer, and improper operations are pointed out while the computer gives the student a demerit mark. In this way, the students' knowledge of circuit analysis is confirmed, and a measure of the the basic knowledge of operating measuring instruments is obtained. An outline of such simulated experiments and the results of their usage in a laboratory course are discussed.
