APPLICATION OF THE TAGUCHI METHOD FOR FACSIMILE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERIZATION ON ATT INTERNATIONAL NETWORK

摘要

Facsimile is a leading non-voice application on the AT&T switched international message network. A field study to characterize facsimile performance on the network between AT&T and a foreign country was conducted using the Taguchi method. The Taguchi method is especially well suited to tackling the problem of characterization of switched network connections because of multiple variables that have to be included for a complete study. A full-factorial method that includes all levels of all variables would be very difficult to implement given the logistical constraints of conducting international field characterization.This paper describes the variables involved, the motivation for employing the Taguchi method, the choice of the orthogonal array, the study implementation and the results.
