In this project an Alopex based DE algorithm for load frequency control of a two-area hydro thermal system is introduced. To study the dynamic response of the proposed system three different algorithms namely PSO, DE and ALOPEX based DE are used. The optimal gains are optimized by cascaded PD-PI controller. Time domain objective function (ITAE) is used to determine the optimal parameters of the controllers. Step load perturbation (SLP) of 1% is applied in area1 to study the performance of different controllers. Finally it is observed that ABDE performs better than the other two algorithms.
