Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and their energy management is a concern in the recent vehicular researches. Energy consumption of vehicles during drives varies with driving style. Classification of drivers on the basis of fuel consumption of HEVs can be used as a technique for promoting good driving. A Fuel Consumption Index (FCI) has defined and it compares driver's performance with himself. Extensive study of driving patterns would help to design controllers for hybrid electric vehicles suitable for urban and rural transports in an adaptive manner. This paper classifies drivers quantitatively based on fuel consumption of the vehicle. Variation of fuel consumption for two different State of Charge (SOC) correction strategies are also simulated in ADVISOR and compared the results. Driver classification which can be implemented for promoting fuel consumption minimization by incentives to drivers of vehicles. Further studies pave path to real time control strategy development for HEVs.
