The Halton Zone 3 Watermain crossing Bronte Creek secures water supply to approved growth areas in the Region. Its construction resulted in minimal disturbance to the environmentally sensitive habitat. Crossing the Creek brought upon many challenges, requiring extensive coordination with key stakeholders along with innovative construction techniques and materials to accommodate century-old infrastructure that aid in the preservation of the natural environment and cultural heritage. This paper will show how innovations in bridge planning and design were developed to suit challenging conditions; including crossings of environmentally-regulated waterways, revitalization of four 90 year old concrete bridge piers, and construction of the pipe bridge over sensitive habitats and steep slopes. Constructability and detailed planning are key factors for providing the area with a positive face-lift including fresh vegetation and architectural details that offer a glimpse back into the Region's history.
