Monitoring underground water quality based on high density resistivity method

Underground water is different from surface water for its weak activity. It is difficult to recover underground water once contaminated. How to monitor the pollution of the underground water becomes the key point. High-density resistivity reflects the environmental problem of high sensitivity of resistivity to the contaminated underground water, the increased irons or heavy metals in the polluted water will greatly reduce the resistivity in polluted area. This study uses RES2DINV to rebuild the underground resistivity profiles. In contrast with pollution-free water model, the inversion results show resistivity responses to different degrees of water pollution. Based on theoretical inversions, the abnormal lower resistivity outline the polluted areas and pollution degree. These trials demonstrate that high-density resistivity is an efficient and fast method to monitor the underground water quality.
