The concentration of DOC, WIOC, and EC in precipitation was monitored at Bondville, IL during two years. The concentration of DOC were slightly lower compared with another study from North Carolina suggesting less impact of anthropogenic and natural emissions. WIOC in precipitation was lower than DOC indicating that much of the aerosol is dissolving after been scavenged. EC in precipitation was lower than expected which could lead to discrepancies with transport models. This finding suggests that EC particles could stay in the atmosphere for longer time since the removal rate is very slow. Finally, the concentration of carbon aerosol in rainwater changed by seasons and it was related not only to the concentration of carbon in air but to changes in aerosol sources.
