In this paper, broadband metasurfaces with the capability to manipulate electromagnetic waves with arbitrary polarizations are studied. Various types of metasurfaces with different geometries will be investigated. The proposed devices will be able to provide the same performance under different polarizations. Metasurface is known as metamaterials surface with ultra-thin thickness (i.e. much smaller than wavelength). Since its invention, it has attracted significant attentions due to its extraordinary light-manipulation capabilities. For example, it can introduce abrupt phase change to wavefronts that are propagating through it, leading to anomalous reflections and refractions. In the past two years, metasurfaces have been applied to areas including imaging [X. Ni et al., Nature Communications, 4: 2807, 2013], sensing, spin optics [G. Li et al., Nano Lett., 13, 4148–4151, 2012], and data storage [A. V. Kildishev et al., Science, 339, 1232009, 2013].
