PARTNERSHIP ALTERNATIVES FOR VITALIZATION OF SMALL-SCALE FESTIVALS AROUND RURAL AREAS OF SOUTH KOREA

Small-scale festivals in rural and coastal areas of South Korea that contribute to economicrecovery, congenial public relations, and even a rise in regional income as spill-over effectshave been vitalizing the local communities for many years. Most rural festivals, however,did not achieve initial goals that local communities expected due to inability to promote andmanage festivals, absence of well-suited festival contents, and ineffi ciency of budgeting,barring a few successful festivals in a few zones.The focus of this study, therefore, is on suggesting practical guidelines and partnershipalternatives for small-scale local festivals, based upon the experiences of disputable issuesof recent rural festivals.
