Long life and high reliability as the design goal of the third-generation nuclear main pump which can normal service for 60 years that are proposed stringent requirements to design and manufacture of the thrust bearings, which are the core components of the third-generation nuclear main pump. A water-lubricated thrust bearing test platform, a water-lubricated thrust bearing half-size test platform and basic hardware and software systems for the development of five important single technology as the key parts of the test platform, was build for the performance prediction and life prediction of the bearing, and it was used to test and verify the lubrication model and the wear life model of the water-lubricated thrust bearing. The platform operability in addition to support the phenomenon simulation and model validation and can mainly be used to support the bearing assessment. The norms and standards of the operation of the bearing will be verified by the platform and a proposal of the revised norms and standards for the performance prediction and life prediction of the bearing will be obtained. Five key technologies that would be used for the platform are lubrication and vibration testing technology, the lubrication status ultrasound monitoring technologies, the abrasive image acquisition and geometric characteristics analysis technology, friction material selection technology and magnetic loading technique, which are basal and particular that can make a basic technology supporting for the test platform after integrated in with debugging. The results of this research can provide an opportune test technical reference for a full-size water-lubricated bearing of the nuclear main pump.
