The outer and the middle scales of Lilium Oriental hybrid 'Sorbonne' bulbs were selected as explants. The ways of bulblets formed from scales and the effects of different plant growth regulators combining with light or darkness were studied. The results indicated that there were two pathways of bulblets formation. For one, buds formed first in light and then inflated into bulblets; for the other, bulblets were induced directly in darkness culture. Both sucrose and PP333 could promote the expansion of bulblets, while AC could reduce the incubation time and improve bulblets quality. The best medium for bulblets formation and growth in vitro was MS+1.0 mgL-1 BA+0.3 mg-L-1 NAA+0.5 g-L-1 AC+5 mg-L-1 PP333+0.5 μmolL-1 SA+70 g-L-1 sucrose.
