A new model of service systems and road maps for developing new methods to evaluate service systems

This paper proposes a new mathematical model of service systems (SSs) based on theory of I/O systems within the mathematical systems theory, and furnishes both a conceptual framework and a mathematical framework for describing and classifying types and aspects of ‘value’ of SSs. In fact, three types of values, that is, ‘stakeholder value,’ ‘connection value,’ and ‘substitution value’ are proposed, and within the conceptual and the mathematical frameworks, ‘road maps’ for developing new methods for evaluating such aspects of value of SSs as ‘profitability,’ ‘marketability,’ ‘connectability,’ ‘completeness,’ ‘replaceability,’ and ‘uniqueness’ are developed, respectively. For more development of the proposed mathematical model of SSs and the proposed conceptual and mathematical frameworks for dealing with the value of SSs, moreover, a concept of service creating SSs (scSSs), which are in ‘higher’ class of SSs, is described in the proposed model of SSs.
