The Protection and Inheritance of Historical Culture in Town Construction

As the origin of cities, historical towns were formed in a particular period and circumstance. With the development of the towns, a substantial local culture has been well preserved in buildings and city life, characterizing the physical appearance and human spirit of the city, which distinguish one from another. Furthermore, the considerable historical information carried by historical towns has become the culture capital of urban competitiveness, which makes preservation and renovation of historical towns a hot spot in the new round of urban construction. Taking historic town of Shipu for example, this paper traces back to town culture, and analyzes the manifestation of fishing culture, coastal defense, maritime trade culture and fire fight culture in the process of the development of the town, and further puts forward the significance and functions of the culture, as a kind of capital, in town construction and development.
