Survey and Analysis of Negative Behaviors in the Workplace in China

Organizational behavior has moved into a richer and more encompassing field with a broader array of concepts and variables. As part of this evolution, new types of behaviors have emerged in theory and research, some functional in nature and others considerably less functional. Based on nearly 20 enterprises with 303 staffs' survey, this paper summarizes 13 various negative behaviors in the workplace,and analyzes the survey through correlation analysis. These negative aspects of behavior include verbal and physical violence, discrimination, sexual harassment, alcohol and illicit drug abuse, smoking,employee theft and destruction of organizational assets, destructive organizational politics, extreme careerism and inappropriate impression management, sustained suboptimal performance, injustice,incivility, psychological contract breach, and organizational retaliatory behavior. And correlation analysis has been done of these various negative behaviors. Lastly, suggestions have been given on minimizing the frequency or severity of these negative actions and to alleviate the breadth of negative consequences that result form these actions.
