Two bisindolylmaleimide derivatives were prepared readily in good yields and characterized by 1H NMR, MS, IR. The absorption spectra and photoluminescence spectra of trie two compounds in solution and in thin film were measured and they show larger Stokes shifts (>100nm). They both exhibit orange fluorescence at 568nm and 571 nm. In particularly, the fluorescence quantum yields of the two compounds were determined to be 0.79 and 0.74, respectively. Fluorescence lifetime of them was also measured with a time resolved fluorescence spectrometer at room temperature (298K) in solution, film and solid powder with nanosecond scale. The experiment results strongly suggest that the bisindolylmaleimide derivatives are promising candidates for the OLEDs materials.
