摘要

In this paper the needs for development of water resources of India are analyzed. Compared to the requirement for various uses, the availability for country as a whole looks enough. However, due to imbalance in availability, some regions are less favoured and they experience stress of water. To reduce the imbalance, it is necessary to construct storage reservoirs. It is also necessary to consider water transfer links from water rich basins to water scarce regions. This would require construction of storages & issues relating to environmental concerns, funding and other associated issues would need to be resolved. Hydropower generation would need to be enhanced & this also involves environmental issues. Ground water development and water quality problems would need to be addressed.
