According to the design requirements of the first AC drive diesellocomotive in China, this paper probes into the design technology of theAC-DC-AC traction system. Problems in system design concerning thematching of the inverter and asynchronous traction motor as well as theeffects caused by difference of wheel diameters are discussed. The maincircuit diagram, control system diagram and general technical parametersare presented. At the end of the paper, test results of the system on atest bed and on the locomotive are analyzed, which further verifies thatthe operation performances of the system and its components comply withthe design requirements
