China has a long history of incense culture. Incense burner, as the carrier of incense culture had existed until the Ming and Qing Dynasty since the two Han dynasties. The Republic of China saw the decline of incense culture, leading to the stagnancy of censer making. In the contemporary age, incense culture has regained development to some extent, and censer production also has begun to flourish. Jingdezhenia ceramic production center, has been famous for its beautiful censers since the Song Dynasty. In modern times, the censer making in Jingdezhen has resuscitated, integrated tradition and fashion, embodied designers’ application of “decoration, usage and philosophy”, which is the very heart of contemporary censer design in Jingdezhen. However, the present design of Jingdezhen ceramic censer also has shortcomings. For example, some designers know very little about incense culture, but are engaged in the design and production of censer, which causes the missing of censer s practical function.
