The health effects of traffic noise are a major concern around the world and various research has been conducted on how to reduce traffic noise. Moreover, traffic noise has negative effects on the residential environment along the road. As such, in Korea low-noise pavement has been highlighted as a countermeasure, especially in the 2-layer design method. In order to build noise management planning for roads and housing complexes, it is necessary to predict traffic noise levels for deciding the type and size of noise control facilities. Therefore, predicting noise levels is an essential procedure in designing roads or housing complexes. As fundamental research, this study compared noise levels between single layer low-noise pavement and 2-layer low-noise pavement to analyze its effects. The noise measurement of tire-surface was carried out at a driving track 2.2km in length. The noise was measured by attaching a microphone in the vicinity of the vehicle wheel at 40km/h to 80km/h. As a result, 2-layer low-noise pavement showed better performance compared to single-layer.
