PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Best practices learned and implemented successfully over 10 years of design projects at DC Water's AWTP

DC Water operates and maintains the largest advanced wastewater treatment plant in the world to serve Washington, DC and surrounding jurisdictions and discharge excellent quality effluent into the Potomac River. This paper describes several of DC Water's business processes related to design management and how they have evolved over the last decade as over a billion dollars was invested in upgrading the treatment plant. Some of the practices were instituted prior to this program while others were established more recently. As technology and the work force changes, we continue to adapt and improve our practices to reflect what we learn from one project to the next.
