Magnetic pulse welding (MPW), Crimping (MPC) or forming (MPF) are very promising technologies based on pulsed magnetic field using a magnetic pulse generator. This paper aims to study the current and temperature distribution produced by an intense pulsed current in a massive one turn coil. The study involves a 3D numerical simulation model of the coil in LSDYNA? based on Maxwell equations and Finite Element Method (FEM). In order to validate this model, an experimental analysis using thermal camera is carried out to measure temperature distribution and good agreement is found.
