In studies of virtual image reconstruction in integral imaging, increasing the resolution and broadening the display range of the reconstructed image have become major concerns. The resolution of the reconstructed image can be improved by using a reconstruction technique based on a lens array model. However, we have to discard some pixels in the reconstructed image generated by this technique; otherwise, the display quality may suffer from stripe distortions caused by this method. We propose a novel reconstruction technique that provides an explicit analysis of the distortion and that uses matching blocks to replace the distortion area. The display range is greatly broadened and the display quality is improved, thus improving the integral imaging.
