Antenna Micro-Diversity Systems Hidden Underneath the Car Roof for Vehicle-to-X Applications

The feasibility of a new hidden antenna placement underneath the roof of the car to allocate Vehicle-to-All (V2X) antenna systems working at 5.9GHz is investigated. By means of spatial micro-diversity combining schemes, a rather smooth radiation pattern can be obtained with a compact antenna array underneath the roof of the car. The diversity performance is evaluated by means of statistics and Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), computing the Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC), power imbalance, Cumulative Distribution Functions (CDF), and diversity gain. Theory, simulation and measurements are given. Excellent agreement between measurements in an outdoor far-field test range and simulations based on the Method of Moments (MoM) is reported. Two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests are performed as a matter of proof to validate the results.
