Research on the Status Quo of Graphical Information Released by VMS on Expressway in China

摘要

With the application of intelligent transportation system (ITS), variable message sign (VMS) has been an important tool for real traffic information service, dynamic guidance and traffic management on expressway. As the graphical information have several advantages, such as simple, plain, easy to be identified and understood, the application of the graphical symbols through VMS to transmit real-time travel and traffic information will be a very helpful and effective ITS application on expressway. Based on the investigation on the status quo of graphical symbols released by VMS in China, the main types and equipment performances of VMS on expressway are summarized. And the main problems of wide application of graphical symbols released by VMS on expressway are analyzed. Finally, based on the introduction of typical cases of the graphical symbols for traffic information in Japan and Europe, this paper put forwards some suggestions on the standardization work for graphical symbols released by VMS on expressway in China.
